Software Engineer

Location: Central London
Salary: up to £50k (depending on experience)

We are currently looking for developers to join us at a very exciting time for our company.  We are looking at growth and so are constantly looking at improving our platform.  There are lots of exciting future developments on our roadmap, which revolve around utilising and surfacing the data we are gathering every day for our product.

Working at Bamboo Auctions is a chance not only to work on new features, but also guide their direction, in terms of technology choice and ideas. We are currently a small team so you will have a chance to have a real impact. We want to keep this culture as we grow.

Our vision and what we do

We believe that auctions are a highly efficient method of buying and selling property, but that it is heavily underused. Our aim is to increase the size of the auction sector in the UK as a whole, by collaborating with existing auction houses to encourage greater use of online auctions. Our online property auction marketplace combines the tradition and local property expertise of existing auctioneers and agents, with our innovation and knowledge of online auctions, to achieve our aim to make auctions more democratic, more convenient and more accessible as an efficient method of sale.

We provide technology to, and work with auctioneers and estate agents across the UK, that allows buyers and sellers to exchange on property online, immediately at the end of a specified time period.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with excellent quality and good Javascript capabilities.  Someone who is eager to learn and share that knowledge as they do so.  We recognise you may have a different background so if you are eager to learn our stack then this could be a very good opportunity.  Preferably you’ll have a good handle on web application architecture and good development principles.

We have an established tech stack of Node.js and MongoDB, in the backend and React/Redux on our frontends, with communication via a RESTful interface.  Our services run on Heroku.  We use a number of external services, such as SendGrid and Stripe.  We’re aware that you may not have used these technologies, the landscape of development is ever changing and we try to stay up-to-date where possible.

Our tech stack is Javascript and so knowledge is important.  We utilise functional programming and ES2015 syntax.  Preferably you’ll have had exposure to a recent front-end framework.

We develop using a modified form of Scrum.  We have a maintained product backlog, and use continuous integration and deployment.  We unit test and code review our work, as a part of our process.  This is all done to maintain quality, share knowledge and to foster an open attitude to development.
